A few weeks ago, the media were abuzz over how the brilliant Obama (compared to that stupid cowboy from Crawford) had reset relations with Russia. Obama had pleased Russia by cancelling the missile defense shield in Eastern Europe. Now the grateful Russians would surely work with us to get tough on Iran. Great theory, but apparently Obama forgot to check the fine print in the “understanding” he made with Russia.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton flew to Moscow this week to work out how Russia would join us to impose real sanctions on Iran. But, alas, she left the meeting murmuring that the time wasn’t right for sanctions. Today, we found out why she was so glum. The real power in Russia, Vladimir Putin, warned the U.S. and others not to “intimidate” Iran and pointedly added that talk of sanctions was “premature.”
So, let’s add up the score:
- The U.S. won’t install a defensive missile shield, angering our allies in Poland and the Czech Republic.
- Iran has stepped up its work to get the bomb and produce missiles to deliver it.
- Russia continues to make sanctions against Iran impossible.
Final score: Nobel Peace Prize winner Obama 0, Russia/Iran 3.

Most of you probably have not heard of Baitullah Mehsud. He’s the top Taliban leader in Pakistan. Defense Department intelligence reports that Mehsud is buying children as young as 7 years old to serve as suicide bombers against American, Pakistani and Afghan targets. The price to purchase one of these children ranges from $7,000 to $14,000 in a country where the average income is $2,600 a year. An unnamed Defense Department official has described Mehsud’s operation as a “production output not unlike the way Toyota outputs cars.” Stories like this show the true nature of the enemy we are fighting and the evil ideology they espouse.
Fortunately, the U.S. military and Pakistani Army are actively pursuing Mehsud. Because of his status in the Taliban hierarchy, he is one of the most-sought terrorists. Just last week, Mehsud barely escaped an attack by a U.S. drone that killed approximately 80 people who were attending a funeral in Pakistan’s tribal region. U.S. officials were watching the funeral via live video feed on the drone. This near-miss is the closest we have come to getting Mehsud in nearly a year.
I hope we hear in the coming weeks that Mehsud has been eliminated before he destroys the lives of more innocent children, Afghan and Pakistani Muslims and American soldiers.

ABC’s one hour infomercial with President Obama promoting his socialized healthcare plan was a ratings bomb for the network. Despite airing in primetime at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, the president attracted fewer than 5 million viewers. The show had the lowest ratings of all the major networks for that hour. It wasn’t as if the other networks aired their most popular shows either. NBC debuted a new show titled “The Philanthropist” and CBS aired a repeat episode of “CSI: NY.”
It appears the American people are getting sick of seeing Barack Obama everywhere. The argument the major news networks use when they receive complaints for giving Obama too much air time is that he is a ratings booster. That argument has lost credibility after Wednesday’s bomb. It is getting harder and harder for Big Media to disguise its true intentions, which is to promote a radical leftwing agenda to the American people. But evidently the American people aren’t that interested in the new ABC — the “All Barack Channel.”
