That’s the view of Rep. John Carter (R-TX), whose district includes Ft. Hood. Rep. Carter is furious that the Pentagon’s nearly 90-page report on the Fort Hood shootings fails to mention the threat of Islamic terrorism. Today’s Washington Post buried an article on the report on page A15. The first reference to religion appeared in the ninth paragraph, which referred to “religious practices … that might lead to violence or self-radicalization,” as if Catholics or Jews might be suspect, too.

In his usually straightforward manner, Ralph Peters, a retired Army intelligence officer, thrashes the report as “gutless and shameful” in a weekend New York Post column. Peters writes: “It’s not about what happened at Fort Hood. It avoids entirely the issue of why it happened. …The Fort Hood massacre didn’t reflect an intelligence failure. The intelligence was there, in gigabytes. This was a leadership failure and an ethical failure, at every level. Nobody wanted to know what Hasan was up to. But you won’t learn that from this play-pretend report.”

Sadly, the political correctness that allowed Major Nidal Hasan to wage jihad at Fort Hood and kill 14 people is still running rampant at the Pentagon. This willful ignorance is just as dangerous as any jihadist, and both must be defeated.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said yesterday that Republican senators are prepared to filibuster the government-run public option and that on this vote there is no compromise.

You may recall that Olympia Snowe voted for the Baucus bill in committee in order to “keep the discussion going.” Yesterday, in a shot across the bow of Snowe and other “moderates,” McConnell said, “I think it’s appropriate to make the point at the outset that a vote … on the motion to proceed to this bill [to end the filibuster of the public option] will be treated as a vote on the merits of the bill.” Let me explain why.

This bill can’t be stopped by just Republicans. They have only 40 votes in the Senate – that is not enough to sustain a filibuster. Socialized medicine will pass or fail depending on what a handful of “moderate” Democrats do. If they vote with Harry Reid to let the bill come to the Senate floor, it will pass — period. Today’s front page Washington Post headline reads, “Obama Seeks Way to Acknowledge Protesters Without Alienating Ayatollah.” This headline could be considered humorous if not for the fact that hundreds of thousands of innocent Iranians are putting their lives on the line in the name of freedom. Iran’s Supreme Leader has routinely called for the “destruction of the state of Israel,” “death to America” and has even blamed the U.S. for meddling with this election, yet our president is still worried about what this man thinks of us.

Barack Obama had the perfect opportunity to confront the Iranian regime, but instead he has elected to sit back and watch as pro-Western youths are beaten, arrested, and, in some cases, killed by radical Islamic thugs. I hope Barack Obama and his advisors read Ralph Peters’ column today in the New York Post. Col. Peters could not have said it any better. Here’s what he wrote:

“To Obama, his dogmatic commitment to negotiations is infinitely more important than a few million protestors chanting the Farsi equivalent of ‘We Shall Overcome.’ This is madness. There is no chance—zero, null, nada—that negotiations with the junta of mullahs will lead to the termination (or even serious interruption) of Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons. Our president’s faith in his powers of persuasion is beginning to look pathological. Is his program of negotiations with apocalypse-minded, woman-hating, Jew-killing fanatics so sacrosanct that he can’t acknowledge human cries for freedom?”

The president’s handling of this historic time in Iran has been an embarrassment to the United States. Rather than recognizing and supporting those Muslims who genuinely support America and the ideals we were built on, Barack Obama has decided to side with a tyrannical regime that with each passing day of silence gains more legitimacy.
